Students graduating from Polimoda, one of Italy’s most prestigious fashion schools, based in Florence, showed their final collections in June in a group show entitled ‘Tell Me About You.’ At the invitation of Polimoda’s Director Danilo Venturi, an international jury of fashion experts gathered to view the event, which was staged at the beautiful Villa Favard in the center of the Renaissance city. Polimoda is based in the Italian center of quality craftsmanship and design excellence. Recently Jil Sander announced that former Polimoda alumni and husband-and-wife designers Luke and Lucie Meier would be taking the helm of the Jil Sander brand as creative directors. According to Danilo Venturi “The Polimoda campus has a tight-knit, family feeling and our focus on what we teach is obsessive.” This was evident in the recent graduation fashion show, where students presented beautifully crafted and conceptualized women’s wear and men’s wear with an eye firmly fixed on the future of fashion. As the fashion industry continues to evolve and new brands and designers emerge, it will be interesting to see how these emerging designers impose their unique visions on popular culture.
